Jaylin Lane’s 63-yard punt return for a touchdown, with 1:05 left in the first half, turned a tight game into a rout. The Washington Commanders held on from there for a 29-21 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, snapping an eight-game losing streak and moving to 4-10 on the season. New York (2-12) lost its eighth straight game, played in cold, windy and snowy conditions in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Marcus Mariota started at quarterback for Washington in place of an injured Jayden Daniels and finished 10 of 19 for 211 yards and a touchdown. His 51-yard connection with Terry McLaurin early in the fourth quarter put the game away. Jaxson Dart, New York’s rookie quarterback, threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted once, by Mike Sainristil, who returned it 55 yards.

Notable Stat Lines

Von Miller recorded his seventh sack of the season in his 200th career game. The sack was his 136.5th, enough to pass Jared Allen (136.0) for 12th on the NFL’s all-time list since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, and it gave him his highest single-season total since 2022.

Sainristil’s 55-yard return was his fourth interception of the season. He became the first Washington cornerback with four interceptions in a season since Kendall Fuller in 2017, and the first Washington player at any position to reach four in a season since Darrick Forrest in 2022.

Giants safety Dane Belton forced two fumbles, a career high. Linebacker Abdul Carter finished with three tackles for loss, also a career best.

The result moved Washington to 4-10 and dropped New York to 2-12, deepening the Giants’ hold on last place in the NFC East with a coaching search already on the horizon for the franchise. Washington hosted the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 20, 2025, and the Giants hosted the Minnesota Vikings the following day, Dec. 21.

Her reporting covers the NFL, NBA, MLB, cricket, and international football, and every figure published under her byline is verified against official data before the piece moves. She started The Press Row because she believed readers who actually understood the game deserved a publication built to the same standard. That standard has not changed since day one, and it applies to every writer on staff.
